Pumpkin Peanut Butter Dog Treats

I love making dog treats for my dog, Lilly.  There are so many dog treats out there that don't even resemble food and who knows what is in them!  Here are some really easy dog treats and your dog will love them.

2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2 large eggs
2/3 cup pumpkin purée, canned or fresh
3 tbsps peanut butter

Mix all of these ingredients together, roll the dough out and use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes, or you can even just cut them into bars.  Put them in a 350 degree oven for about 20-30 minutes, depending on the desired doneness.  Lilly likes them crunchy so ours were in the oven for about 30 minutes.  Just check on them every now and again.  ENJOY!  Your dog will thank you!

Good for Puppy's Tummy

My little Lilly is still a puppy and still eats EVERYTHING!  Sometimes it causes her to not feel so great, so here is a bone that helps her feel better.  I found it here.  Pumpkin helps soothe their stomachs.

-2 eggs
-1/2 cup canned pumpkin
-2 tablespoons dry milk
-1/4 teaspoon sea salt
-2 1/2 cups brown rice flour  (you can also use whole wheat flour, but rice flour is easier on their tummy)
-1 teaspoon dried parsley (optional)
Preheat oven to 350.
In a large bowl, mix the eggs and pumpkin until smooth.  Mix the other ingredients in with it.
Lilly loves them!
Roll it out on a lightly floured surface and roll it out to be between 1/4 and 1/2 inch thick.  Use a cookie cutter or just cut them with a knife into strips.  My daughter had a ball cutting these out and making tine marks with a fork in the middle.
Put them in the oven for 20 minutes and then flip them over and bake for another 20 minutes.

Happy Birthday to my favorite pup!

Yesterday was my Lilly Bean's first birthday and to celebrate, I made some homemade Frosty Paws (Ice cream for dogs).  It is so easy to do!  In my food processor I added:

32 oz of plain yogurt (I used organic.  Nothing but the best for my pooch!)
1 ripe banana
2 Tablespoons of natural peanut butter
2 Tablespoons of honey

I zapped it all until smooth and then distributed it among small containers to toss in the freezer.  Keep an eye on your dog while he/she is eating.  Besides the fact that they will most likely be scooting it all over the house trying to get every last drop of yummy goodness, he/she may also be silently chewing on the container the ice cream is in....or maybe that is just my doggy.

Dog Treats!

Our girl, Lilly
Even the dog is eating better these days!  Ever wonder what is in those bones that you buy at the store that have "meat" running through the middle?  I do!  Why should your dog eat that when making delicious treats for her is so easy and a lot less expensive?  Our puppy doesn't eat people food, only the special dog food I buy her from the pet store, but I did make her some tasty treats that she LOVED!  Plus, everything that goes into these treats, I already had in my kitchen.

1/2 cup of peanut butter
1/4 cup honey
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 cup chicken broth
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup all-purpose flour

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Mix the flours and oats in one bowl.  Mix the peanut butter, honey, oil and broth in another bowl.  Mix the wet and dry ingredients together.  Roll them out on a floured surface about 1/4 inch thick.  If you don't have a cookie cutter, you can just slice them into bars (your dog won't mind).  Put them in the oven for about 16 minutes and let cool on a cooling rack.  You will make your dog's day.
